Been a while since you heard from us, huh? From about May of 2007 to just about two weeks ago, The Wrestling Voice has been on an involuntary hiatus for a number of reasons. Maybe I should start this off and explain what's been going on.
On May 5, 2008, I was involved in a very, very serious car accident. I hit a tree at somewhere between sixty and seventy miles per hour and spent the next week in the hospital. Following that, I pretty much engulfed myself in work to pay off the hospital bills and physical therapy bills that were piling on. More importantly, I spent more time with my friends and loved ones since it did make me look at my life a little differently. So the site took a back-burner while I got my life in order and back on track. By the time that happened, the site had gone so long without site updates - I didn't even know where to begin! This thought ultimately deterred me time and time again from updating the site besides minimal updates such as certain Interactive contests (like the ill-fated Tilde Bang 100 and Free TV Matches Of The Week), but from doing the daily updates and weekly changes - I was just put off by the staggering time the site had gone without being updated.
Luckily, we still managed to hit on big things. TWV's 3rd Year Anniversary Awards happened shortly before the updates went out so the results were never really put up (but have been now). The Wrestling Hall Of Fame for last year was still done and we hit record numbers thanks to Bryan Alvarez's plug. We even added a matches section! I honestly can't wait for this year's Hall Of Fame and I suggest you check out last year's if you haven't yet. I'm linking all this in the titles of the updates, by the way, if you want to check them out so there ya go. We did the Tilde Bang Top 100 which was voting on people's favorite wrestler. I said "ill-fated" earlier simply because of the fact that Chris Benoit won and on the day it was announced, it was also the day the Benoit tragedy hit. Yep, still an unbelievable occurrence almost a year later.
The 2007 Wrestling Awards still went on and we had a very good showing & some interesting results. We added a star ratings section which has an archive of Bryan Alvarez & Dave Meltzer star ratings (of over four-stars - so basically matches worth checking) and even a section representing TWV done by Matthew James, author of The Intricate Spectrum. Surveys were put up on the forums and site to help us gauge what people like and don't. The Wrestling Trivia Federation (or WTF) came to our Interactive section too, which is led by Marco Lima and is basically just a trivia competition with championships, "feuds," and the like. Just recently, we started a very ambitious project of naming the top 100 matches of 2007 which was started in January and probably won't conclude until around May seeing as how the uploading of certain matches is taking a while. The WrestleMania Dream Series even made a comeback so you guys can vote on what you want to see at Mania this year. All in all, we still managed to add some pretty interesting things to the site - problem being that only those on the forum managed to see them, which is all the more reason to join The Wrestling Asylum!
Of course, "other" things were continually added and updated, by which I mean the things that people come to the site most for, but due to lack of updates, didn't get much attention and the like. Columns were still added, some radio shows were done, a few reviews & interviews here and there, and I'm sure some other stuff I'm missing. Of course, a lot happened on the forums over the past ten months or so, but again - that's just another reason to join The Wrestling Asylum!
But we still missed a lot of important things, most importantly the columns. Spotlight and features weren't done and thus, Column Of The Month wasn't done. That's been remedied though as a panel of ten former & current staff members helped me to choose (unanimously in all but two months) the past Column Of The Months. We have gone all the way through last month and we will start again with spotlight and features on Sunday for this past week! In terms of columnists, we've lost a great many of them (some great themselves), but we've started to hire some back. David Landons has come back to TWV as has Marcus Cygy who used to be a reviewer. We've hired Gray Wilson & George Antonio as well and are looking at hiring a lot more. The plan right now is to get back to having fifty-plus quality writers and as always for columnists (and reviewers/interviewers), we're accepting applications so apply today!
We've kick-started the additional section updates (cartoons, games, et cetera) with a new game - The Wrestling Crossword. I'm going to try and keep that one updated weekly, but I've already missed a week on it. Might make it monthly, but who knows? Some more reviews will hopefully be coming and in between scheduling interviews, I think I will put up two previously un-published interviews (one with Matt Cappotelli from 2006). The radio shows should be making a comeback as well with Crossfire being recorded sometime this weekend and Revolution Radio following suit hopefully soon. A new banner for the site is even being made so look out for it!
All in all, it's been a long eight months without updates, but they are finally here and are going to keep on keepin' on (to steal a line from a funny dumb movie). We're just going to keep adding more and more too and hopefully bring back some other things that were ignored even when there were updates.
So keep checking back on the site & the forums (third time's the charm - join The Wrestling Asylum) and enjoy as we get TWV back on track one hundred percent!
