Week Of May 15th Address
Posted by Douglas Nunnally on 05/24/2005

Greetings from the man with the taped up glasses and severely baggy eyes on this fine Monday morning. Yes, that is right. "The State Of TWV Address" is back and with the amount of people asking me for it each week, I guess it’s about time. Normally, these will fall on Sundays, but with Live Center for WWE Judgment Day Sunday night and work all day Monday; there wasn’t much time to talk about it now. Well, I’m talking about it now, so just shut up and be happy.

So where do we begin this week on the past week of events happening on the best site around?

Well, for starters, the first TWV Guest Promotion of 2005 is done and over and the results look a little something like this:

Zac Snow 28.9% (40 Votes)
Phillip Masci 24.6% (34 Votes)
Stephen Crane 18.8% (26 Votes)
Syed Omair Rehiman 15.2% (21 Votes)
Bally S. Uppal 12.3% (17 Votes)

Total Votes: 138

Congratulations are in due for Zac Snow, author of "A Column From Down Under." This was either the third or fourth "Guest Promotion" contest that Zac has been in, and he has been a guest at this site for a way long time. In fact, Zac Snow was the second longest guest on the site. Our first is Syed Omair Rehiman, author of "X Marks The Spot," who has appeared in every single guest promotion vote, but just does not manage to capture a majority of the votes. Honorable mentions go out to Philip Masci, author of "The Best Column Going TODAY," as he has only been a guest since March and came so close to winning this contest. Bally S. Uppal, author of "The Canadian’s Perspective," and Stephen Crane, author of "The Crane Column," had impressive numbers too for their first contest.

All in all, the contest turned out solid. No one should be depressed with their numbers as there is only a 23 vote gap between 1st and last. Yes, it may seem like a lot, but in the past, it has been way more. Congratulations again to Zac Snow. For those wondering, you can find Zac’s new home for columns by clicking here. Zac joins the incredible club of Phenix, Double A, Matt Green, Tim Jaquay, and Jason McGinn as columnists who have started on the bottom of the site and made it to member status. Looking at that list you see 2 "Column Of The Month Winners," so maybe we could be seeing Mr. Snow hop into that category very soon.

Speaking of Column Of The Month, it is that time again, and boy, do we have a contest this month! Below are the nominees:

Enter The Dream Realm: The Fine Line
A View From the Rafters: Three Fatal Sparks
[The Wright Idea!] Marking Out
All That & A Bowl Of Cereal: Wrestling As A Religion

It seems like another tough one this month. We have Morpheus and Phil Snyder looking to be the first ever columnist to get 2 TWV COTM awards, and then we have the likes of Jordon Wright and Stinger trying to finally capture an award after coming very close numerous times before. This seems like it will be a very interesting contest, honestly. Each column is unique, well-written, personal, and thought provoking to the point where I wonder if I will ever be able to choose. Man, we have some good columns here on TWV. Voting will end on the 5th of June and to vote, just click here.

As we start off with a big columns theme for this week, why don’t we keep it rolling? Bradley Springer aka Master Debator on the TWV Asylum Forums has started a new TWV Interactive contest known simply as "The Columns League." Once a month, there will be a huge columns contest involving anyone who is willing, whether you or on TWV or not. Contestants will be placed in a match against a fellow columnist and they will then turn in one column to be judged by a panel of myself, Bradley Springer, and TWV co-owner Mike Steele. There have been man column leagues in the past, and none have ever really lasted. TWV even had one almost a year ago that was short-lived. However, with the current resurgence in columnist’s interaction, this could make for a very interesting league. The likes of people like Butcher, Jon Brown, Jordon Wright, & Matt Green already signed up, it is looking to be a very good and diverse group. My only fear is that people from other sites, whether they write for TWV or not will take this league seriously and/or join. The bottom line is that there is no real event for columnists to interact through and to strive to get better besides personal fulfillment. This could be that and so much more. If you’re interested, please go right ahead and sign up. It’s open to everyone, and if memory serves me correct, we had many people piggyback success in the old Columns League to a slot on TWV! For more information, please head over here.

Columns maybe the main focus on TWV, but they are definitely not the only thing going on. Just a few days ago, Mike Steele and I decided to make some of the rules on the TWV Asylum forums a little stricter and put some concrete punishments with them. The staff on TWV Asylum will also be enforcing these rules a lot more too. You can view the rules by clicking here.

Most notably, the rules on advertising and signatures have been tightened. Members on TWV are now only allowed to have 2 links or "advertisements" in their signatures and big signatures are now unwelcome. There is no SET limit on the signature size, but if a moderator or admin decides it is too big, you must change it. We have been having a big problem with signature sizes and advertising as of late, so it’s important for us to enforce and tighten rules around TWV. Plus, with the level of "fights" on the forums, enforcing rules will keep a more amicable environment than normally.

The "Total Wrestling Federation" E-Fed has been having some problems as of late. Their current television show was a few weeks late in being posted due to the owner, Will Hernandez aka iiremixii, having too much on his plate. Because of this, a new co-owner was named to help keep the fed running. James Peart aka Klinz has now taken over the duties as co-owner of the TWF and has done his best to breathe life back into the fed. The late show has been posted, and the roleplayers in the e-fed are still gearing up for the biggest show of the year: Genesis! If you are interested in joining, I highly suggest the e-fed. I am not a serious roleplayer, but have partaken in the pastime more than once, and like it is advertised, this is the most interactive e-fed today. To join and get more information on the e-fed, you can either e-mail James Peart by clicking here or just visit the forums by clicking here.

Moving on, "What’s My Best Match?," an Interactive contest led by Matt Green, seems to be doing well at this stage. Each week, Matt puts up a superstar and people nominate the top 5 best WWWF/WWF/WWE matches that person has had, and the following week, the matches are voted upon until there is one BEST match for each star. So far, Shawn Michaels’s best match is with Mankind at Mind Games/In Your House 10; Hulk Hogan’s best match is with Rock at Wrestlemania X8; and Kurt Angle’s best match is with Chris Benoit at Royal Rumble 2003. Currently, The Rock is being voted upon, while Undertaker is still being nominated for. Like I said, it is doing well so far, and it will be interesting when we get to people like Triple H, Mick Foley, and Eddie Guerrero to see what people think their best matches are. To vote or nominate or just find out more about this, just click here.

It has been somewhat of a ghost town for the roundtable, audio show, and review sections. I, for one, apologize for the lack of reviews as of late as it is my duty to review Raw & SmackDown! each week. However, as soon as the last word on this post is posted, I will begin my Judgment Day & Raw review and with that, we will slowly start to breathe life into the review section here on TWV, with Raw and SmackDown! being guaranteed to be reviewed this week! As far as the roundtable goes, there was an unsuccessful attempt to do it Sunday at Noon. As far as I know, Matt Green & Tim Jaquay were there. David Goold overslept and I still have not heard from Phil Snyder. I had fallen asleep and woken up 12 minutes late, and when I came to the computer, I saw only Tim online. With that level of people for the roundtable, the bed seemed a little more appealing so I crawled back in and pulled the covers over my head while enjoying the fetal position. I guarantee that the roundtable will be making its return within two weeks as a lot of the members have a better schedule now with school out and the summer upon us. After the return, we will all try our best to make it a weekly occurrence. Finally, as far as the audio show goes, I can safely say there have been no new updates. I have not spoken to my co-host Will Hernandez in a while, and as far as I know, he is extremely busy right now so there is no point to stress him out more. I will guarantee that when we come back sometime in June, we will deliver a jam-packed show. For those interested in online wrestling shows, we are going to cut the crap on "storylines" and "pointless interactions" and we are going to stick with what we do best and what you tune in to hear: wrasslin’ talk!

The interviews section has also been somewhat stale as of late, but in the coming weeks, I will be transcribing the interviews that Michael Moody and Cole Cash did with The Wrestling Crossfire for those who could not hear it. I will also be conducting another interview with Cole Cash, who has made his return, very shortly. Other names I am looking to pursue are former WWF Intercontinental Champion Ahmed Johnson, current ROH superstar Bryan Danielson, current IWA-MS star Jimmy Jacobs, and other stars of past and present.

The cartoons section has been doing fabulous lately thanks to Mike Steele. They might not be the best every single go-around, but everyone is having a chuckle over them and they are one of our most highly viewed features on the site. Expect a new one tomorrow folks!

Finally, what else is there to talk about, but our big day Sunday with Live Center! With minimal advertising and a bad reputation about it, the Live Center Sunday turned out rather well. I would have been happy to see 50 people online at once, but at one time, I saw 70, and someone swears they saw 85. Mike and I were not looking to make this the biggest one or best one yet, but rather to actually doing one. After no-showing some TNA PPVs, Wrestlemania, and Backlash, we most likely got the rep of "untrustworthy" with our Live Center promises, so Sunday’s Live Center was really just a re-building one, and I expect the ECW, Vengeance, and PPVs down the line to do a lot better, especially considering we will actually advertise these more. As far as the actual event went, for those wondering, Mike did the Heat coverage all by himself while I finished up my predictions and ordered the event. At eight o’clock my time, I started watching the webcast of Judgment Day, and blocked everyone but Mike and my girlfriend. I typed everything I saw to Mike with some opinion thrown in of course, and he transferred everything to posts and actual sentences. It was pretty much the opposite we had done for the past 2 PPVs, as he watched Royal Rumble and No Way Out and I transcribed his IMs. The only real problems to the event was that Mike got a little behind, which I did as well for the Rumble and NWO, and the fact that at the beginning of the Carlito-Show match, the feed went out and I was worried it wouldn’t come back. Other than that, Live Center turned out to be a big hit, and was just great overall for the site. I can personally guarantee that we will do coverage of ECW One Night Stand coming up. I actually hope that we can get a certain ECW-loving columnist to do it, but it will be late where he lives so he might not be willing. No matter what, there will be coverage for it.

That pretty much wraps up the return of this little address, even though it’s very late. There are always a ton of things going on at TheWrestlingVoice.com from the forums to the site. Just because you don’t see it in the staff updates, definitely does not mean that it is not going on. So anyway, check back next week for a brand new "State of TWV Address," and on behalf of myself, thanks for reading and tha thanks for visiting the best site today.
