Guest Column By Sivaram Prasad

This past Sunday, Total Nonstop Action Wrestling held their biggest Pay Per View ever Bound for Glory. For the first time, a TNA 3-hour PPV was not in their home venue of Orlando.

The atmosphere & predictably was electric. The night started with "Robert" Roode cutting a good promo before introducing his new manager, Traci Brooks, as well as a new finisher as he put Lance Hoyt away with the Last Rites or, as he calls it, the Payoff. A good enough match for a pre-show.

The opening match for the PPV...entertaining. The concept of "open battle royal" was stretched to the limit with everyone from female rookie Sirelda to former TNA jobber D Ray 300 in the battle royal. Alex Shelly and Petey Williams, both Detroit regulars, got massive huge pops. In the end, it was Austin Starr (Austin Aries) winning on his debut.

Next up was the 4 Corners Tag Team match. Mayhem all over the ring in this one with a string of finishing moves being hit towards the end. Team 3D won with the 3D on Andy Douglas to cap off a decent match. Short, but sweet.

Samoa Joe, Abyss, Raven, and Brother Runt entered the ring for a NoDQ match, known as Monster's Ball. While this was a good match, it was not up to the standard of hardcore matches that TNA have set in the past. Last year's Monsters Ball topped this one. We still got to see a couple of cool spots this time around like Samoa Joe hitting the Senton Splash on Abyss and the tacks.

Eric Young versus Larry Zbyszko was nothing more than a bathroom break. But it didn't go on long enough to be considered bad.

Chris Sabin faced Senshi for the X Title in the best pure wrestling this year in all of wrestling. A true classic from both men who really took it to the next level with their performance; this was a real "This is Awesome" match.

Christian Cage and Rhino has a fun match. A fun brawl with a bunch of weapons and Cage put himself over as a solid heel in front of Rhino's home crowd.

Six Sides Of Steel with LAX versus AJ Styles and Christopher Daniels was one of the best cage matches I have ever seen. The idea of non-stop action was shown in this match as Homicide debuted the fork in TNA, another one of his ROH inventions. This match was a classic too so watch it if you get the chance.

Now for the main event; smarks can argue all they want, but Sting was over with the crowd and he clearly was in good shape for the match. This match might not have been a 5 Star classic, but it definitely deserved its place in the main event.

Overall, Bound For Glory was one of the best PPV's of 2006, if not the best. The overanalyzing, nitpicking smarks will complain about every tiny thing, but it cannot change the fact that this PPV fulfilled its place as TNA's biggest PPV of the year.

Now that that's over with, let me address the effect this PPV had on certain key members of TNA's roster.

Christian Cage
A nice finish to his match. He stacked a bunch of weapons on Rhino and hammered at him with a chair. Huge boos, but that's what he needed to do to get himself over as a heel. Christian Cage might not have been TNA's top heel on Sunday night, but he just may become the top TNA heel in the next few weeks.

Sting
Finally, he's the World Champion. It was great to see him 'hulking up' when Jarrett hit him with guitar. A good promo on iMPACT! should keep Sting in good stead for his title run.

LAX
Tag team champions again. America's Most Wanted was the best tag team in wrestling for a long time. LAX has now taken over that role. It's quite likely that LAX will now be feuding with AMW and that "oriental bitch" Gail Kim for the next few months. All in all, a good night for LAX who are back at the top again.

Austin Starr
What does the X Division need? Character. Austin Starr has the look; hopefully a good promo will be coming soon from him. He's a great wrestler as any ROH fan should know. A new X Division Champion might be here.

Alex Shelly
Detroit loves him, but that doesn't mean all TNA fans will. It's unclear what's next for Alex, but judging by the post match arguments after the Battle Royal, a feud with Starr is possible.

Chris Sabin
No more Jackass as it seems for Chris Sabin. He became X Division Champion in a great match, but I do not think it will last too long. With Russo booking, I expect AJ Styles to return to the X Division. That'll also mean that at some point in the next few months, Styles will be X Champion again.

Christopher Daniels
He night not be a tag champ anymore, but what the hell. I think a singles push is looming for Daniels and perhaps his long journey for the NWA Title may just have started.

The Naturals
I think we saw at BFG that the Naturals will not become Tag Team Champions again. Shane Douglas does the job on the mic, but Andy Douglas and Chase Stevens just don't have the "it" factor.

Samoa Joe
A feud with Angle? Awesome, something any wrestling fan would want to see. This should not only be a great feud, but it will also produce some good matches.

So stay tuned to TNA. It's going to get very interesting. TNA took another major step forward as a company. I can only hope that a new primetime Thursday night slot will take them further. That's all for this time; I hope you enjoyed my first column.
