Land Of Paradoxeum
par·a·dox: A seemingly contradictory statement that may nonetheless be true: the paradox that standing is more tiring than walking. Wrestling is full of paradoxes even a statement such as “Every TNA PPV is the greatest ever” that in reality is a paradox. An assertion that is essentially self-contradictory, though based on a valid deduction from acceptable premises.
Too many opinions & statements in wrestling are contrary to received opinion. Wrestling fans tend to use oxymoron's allot and are completely against negation. I know A lot of my columns so far have been negative towards something but these are things I feel I need to get out of the way before I can move on to more positive topics. But this is a situation that truly makes me think inner dialectic thoughts; a contradiction of ideas that serves as the determining factor in their interaction with a promotion or wrestler for example everyone expects a mat classic and the brawling wrestler seems almost unacceptable yet dare I say 99% of the people who are now TNA fans, ROH fans or whatever so called pure wrestling promotion at some point totally marked out for guys like Steve Austin who was brawler although fantastic brawler was a brawler and these same people make a statement like all the X Division wrestlers are great that is a false statement despite it being open to opinion.
I think TNA fans & WWE fans are both products of oppositeness both have there place in wrestling but there constant degrading and berating of each other is just ridiculous and childish. I truly think both promotions have positives and negatives but to put down the other promotion to try and put your favorite promotion over is just silly. I was reading a column I will leave anonymous in which he said Generation X Vs. The Naturals was a perfect example of tag team wrestling from an Impact taping was great and blows away matches like MNM vs. The Shooting Stars from SmackDown! That is just plain negativity towards something that was truly good.
The paradoxes and elitist mentality's of wrestling fans go hand in hand it is truly mind boggling to me I don't understand why a fan can't enjoy the good points of all wrestling promotions . For example I read perhaps the most ridiculous, bamboozling, absurd, ludicrous statement I have seen and I quote “There is no way Undertaker & Kurt Angle could have a 5 Star match that would mean they perform as good as X-Division wrestlers” I can't see any logic is this quite statement it's lacks any sort of validity's in a statement in that sort of comment it's basically making your mind up before you witness it which is an ignoramus like way of looking at something.
The many complexities of the wrestling audience are wide and varied you have your guy who sits down trying to deal out a star rating to every match and there is the your average mark who just enjoys watching wrestling and isn't that the point?, Isn't the intended purpose of wrestling is to deliver a good story and great entertainment threw promos and good or great wrestling?
But the greatest paradox in wrestling is people who says WWE sucks TNA rules or visa versa as it's basically a false statement thats holds essentially no ground and is just an attempt to be different. And remember most paradoxes stem from some kind of self-reference or self-opinion. Now to end this whole column with a paradox of my own sometimes talking will take more out of you then running 7 kilometres.
Now to continue my countdown of my 20 greatest wrestling matches:
19."Flyin'" Brian Pillman vs. Jushin "Thunder" Liger (WCW Light Heavyweight Title, Superbrawl II): This was a match that came straight out of Japan, The amazing thing about this match was Liger's ability to work the crowd despite not knowing a lick of English in an absolutely fantastic match Pillman regained the title and both men embraced at the end. Rating : ****
Thank You
