(WWE) World Wrestling Egos

Through the years wrestling fans have tuned in each and every week and watched seemingly egomanical characters on television it's when this transfers into the wrestlers psyche that it becomes dangerous. Over the years there have been many wrestling feuds that have nothing to do with what happens in the ring or on the microphone for that matter this are the personal feuds between the athletes & when it comes to these feuds it's normally driven by one thing ego let me further elaborate.

Sometimes these feuds are caused over a spot or having to do a 'job' but the one thing all these personal feuds have in common is ego. As of late there have been many feuds between some of the greatest competitors to ever set foot inside a squared circle or that silly octagon thing TNA uses between guys like: Bret Hart, Mick Foley, Ric Flair & Shawn Michaels. Sometimes they are extreme and sometimes they are nothing but a few derogatory words or “shoots” done about other wrestlers.

But is it that calls all this hate and negativity towards a fellow sports-entertainer the simple answer is ego lets do a few case studies on incidents and feuds from yesteryear and today:

1. Shane Douglas vs. Ric Flair

Remember in ECW there was this guy named Shane Douglas yep thats the one the guy who interviews the talent in TNA now-a-days well back in ECW he was huge star but felt the need to slag Ric Flair for 45 minutes during a promo what did he achieve by this? Absolutely nothing he wasted a bunch of time drew no ratings and came off as bitter. This was mainly a one sided affair with Douglas the only one participating in the verbal sparring and what caused it all simple jealousy & ego.

2. Jeff Jarrett vs. WWF/E

This is another case of an ego running wild Jarrett always felt he was a main event player he often pleaded for a push within the WWF at the time but he never received it this caused him to Jump back and forward a few times between WWF & WCW but it was jump in 2000 to a desperate WCW in need of talent that Jarrett decided to let loose on the WWF in promos and such which resulted in him getting the WCW title (hey he got his push). Now Jeff Jarrett in Mr. TNA yet the bitterness still remains taking shots at WWE since being in TNA wait to go Jarrett lets not hold onto the past now.

3. Mick Foley vs. Ric Flair

This all started with a few jokes from Foley about Flairs age which woke a beast that has yet to go back to sleep, Ric Flair claims Foley was never a good champion and that he was nothing more than a glorified stunt man or is that Flair is jealous of Foley's success I'd have to go with the latter because Foley was an indeed gifted wrestler and no-one can deny him that.

4. Bret Hart vs. Ric Flair

Another feud that all started with a single comment Flair said and I quote “Bret Hart was a great wrestler but was never a draw” something that simple infuriated Bret Hart surely Bret knows he could draw so why respond? ;) Bret claimed that Ric Flair was nothing more than a routine man who's only good move was something that had to legitimately hurt his opponents. Geez if only WWE's script writers were this creative.

5. Bret Hart vs. Shawn Michaels

This is a case of a great in ring rivalry turning into a sad out of ring rivalry that has dragged on for years with neither man willing to go let by-gones be by-gones, This all started with the Montreal Screw Job (which I'm not going to get into because we all know that story) and has continued on today till as recently as the release of Bret's new DVD and Shawn's new book. Shawn says Bret was a good wrestler but never great, Bret says Shawn was an amazing athlete but doesn't credit him as a wrestler so who do we believe.

I could write a list that could create a book of just wrestling feuds but I thought I'd pick some big ones that everyone knows.

All these feuds are caused by one thing ego. One thing a professional athlete is taught from an early stage is to never believe your own hype I guess they must have skipped that page at wrestling training the wrestling world is full of people believing there own hype. Their is constant sparring between wrestlers/promoters/managers/writers and whoever else is involved in a company that is more often then not caused by ego a wrestler wanting a push or another wrestler not wanting to put another other because there “not” in the same league etc.

I find it interesting that two greats like say a Bret Hart and a Ric Flair can say derogatory things about one on another's wrestling skills when it is clear to the whole wrestling community both are in the top 10 in history so why? It's a simple case of trying to feed there own ego.

So next time you hear about a so called wrestling feud the best thing to do is pay no attention as all you are doing is feeding the ego of these so called superstars who just come of as kindergarten children.

Until next time remember your not in this world to live up to anyone else's expectations and there not in this world to live up to yours!.
