Hello and welcome to another edition of ATWIT. I thought I'd spend a little of my valuable time talking about why we watch WWE year in and week out even though we complain week after week. It's actually quite funny that we're the only people that complain all the time that the product sucks yet we watch every week. If a sitcom sucks after a couple seasons and people don't like it then guess what....it gets -canceled-! Sadly we don't have that luxury because if the WWE was afraid to get canceled they might actually give a damn about what they put on television all the time.
A couple weeks ago I tuned in to UPN to watch another "great" episode of Smack Down. The downside was that there was no Smack Down. Instead the local network replaced it with old episodes of Fear Factor (?)! In fact my local UPN network isn't airing Smack Down at all. While most feel that I should uphold my 1st Amendment rights and appose this I secretly don't give a damn. Maybe a year or two ago I would try to get my Smack Down program back up, but now I don't actually want to watch. That’s because...and this may be very hard to understand...but I don't like watching wrestling anymore. Now like I said, that may be very hard to comprehend, but it's as true as a heart attack. Simply put it's like a falling soap opera where the good character’s entire contract run out and they get replaced by lustful, horny teenagers who spit out cliché lines one after another. Vince just hasn't kept my attention to want to watch and pay attention week after week. I'm actually finding it more exciting to view tidbits that come on Velocity every week.
I'm going to continue with comparing the WWE with a bad soap opera. Why not? They both seem to be the same these days. Yes, YOU PEOPLE ARE FREAKIN' WATCHING A WEEKLY SOAP OPERA! I thought that I'd put it in capital letters because you faithful WWE viewers need to know that and not be ashamed of that fact. WWE is not wrestling anymore. We knew that for year I believe. I get so bored watching wrestling matches these day's for the keen fact that they are always the same. Just look week after week. You get the same wrestling product every single show. It already sucks that you only get about 30 minutes of wrestling on a 2 hour wrestling show, but to have the matches seem like dejavu every week is a sick joke indeed.
I'm trying to recollect why I enjoyed wrestling so much as a kid and I came to the simple solution that it was the badass characters the wCw made "back in the day." Even the heels were fan favorites time and time again. Yet in the WWE we don't get that. As we all have known for an elongated time, Triple H is the main character the WWE pushes. I like the fact that they push him so much because it makes him a quick wrestling icon in today's struggling world. He plain deserves to be an icon in the business. Other icons such as Steve Austin and The Rock have moved on because of their selfish ego's, but Triple H has stayed faithful to the hand that fed him. Like I said before I like that Triple H gets the television time that he does; what I don't like is the fact that he's a heel that gets all the breaks. That has never actually happened. Sure we'd get son of a bitch GM's who would give heels the breaks every once in awhile, but not like this.
It's a morality tale. Good always triumphs over evil in the end, yet we haven't seen that yet. I believe that I always liked wrestling because of the fact that the badass good guy always comes away with a smile on his face. No, it wasn't the violence or the highflying action; it was the grin that showed that the good guy has won. It's a morality tale.
So now what do I do? I lost Smack Down and I don't want it back. I still have RAW, but seeing the negative joy I got from my SD! woes, do I really want to watch RAW anymore? Do I really want to watch wrestling in general now? That’s a question I myself will answer very soon. I haven't updated my column for three weeks now and I'm deeply sorry for that, but of coarse you know the reason. I didn't lose my lust for wrestling; I lost my respect for it. I feel that wrestling let me down. The product was just like cocaine. It put me in a false sense of happiness and now I have a deep depression.
Maybe if I watch RAW and I see that things have changed for the better.... Maybe if I see something other than La Resistance holding the tag team titles...maybe if I see somebody finally takes down Triple H from his throne...maybe if I see new faces that actually have talent instead of Tyson Tomko or Schetske...maybe if WWE hires better writers, writers from a cancelled NBC sitcom maybe...but I don't see that happening anytime soon. Vince is too busy sitting back and watching his empire close. He's like Al Pacino in Scarface. He justs sits back while his cookie crumbles!
Enough WWE bashing for now. I'm morally spent for now and I'm sick of talking about how bad wrestling is these day's. I'm serious, it makes my stomach churn that I have to say these things about the sport I used to enjoy. Anyway's, thanks for reading my column...my very late column. I'll answer my question soon after a long deliberation. Until next time, thanks and...And Thats What I Think!
