First, sorry that I haven’t posted a column in a while, for now on, Back of the Rafters is going to be a bimonthly column. And there is no way to get back into the groove of my column then by talking about the likelihood that the most deserving person in the entire WWE might be the next WWE Champion.

I have been looking around for some information on how WWE is going to handle John Cena’s injury and find someone to take his place while he is sidelined for what we can only hope is the maximum time. There, however, seems to be nothing that indicates what the match will be tonight. Still, the curiousity has not gotten me ready to actually spend money and what otherwise looks like a lackluster pay per view event.

Back in the day, when Stone Cold Steve Austin and the Rock were leaving the wrestling world to try other things, and when Brock Lesnar threw a hissy fit and went off to become an amazing football player, Triple H was holding the fort as the most believable champion and charismatic person on the roster. But, Triple H’s runs with the belt came across as annoyance to a lot of people because of the fact that the WWE relied too heavily on him, keeping him in the limelight as a heel and giving him sometimes up to 30 minutes in the ring, just talking on the microphone.

At first thought, going back to those days does not sound so great. However, I think that right now the best thing that the WWE can do is give the title back to Triple H.

Some people may be tired of hearing this, as many of us big Triple H fans get behind it, but I honestly believe that this would be much different than anything that has happened before. Triple H as a babyface who antagonizes Vince McMahon has been the most entertaining part of the WWE since DX was brought back a year ago. While Cena brings in people who love him to watch the show, he also brings in a large group of viewers who are sick of him and want to see him lose the belt.

Well, he lost it, just not how we wanted him to.

Still, Triple H has exactly what Cena lack; and no, I don’t mean the fact that he is the voice in Stephanie McMahon’s ear. He has the charisma right now to be the wrestler that the fans can get behind, he has his father in law as his ultimate heel, and most importantly, he can wrestle and put on a hell of a match. Played correctly, a big Triple H vs. Vince McMahon feud with Triple H as champion right now would probably be the absolute best thing Vince could do to save his sinking ship. Cena can be dealt with in the storyline later however they feel, but now he should be forgotten.

I have no idea what will be going on during No Mercy tonight and I am not going to purchase it. But if Vince plays his cards right, Triple H will be the WWE Champion in a few hours.
