Well golly gee! It seems Bad Blood snuck up on me this year. In reality, I have been writing a mega column that will be posted this week on my past year as a columnist, and I have had not time to write this one. Well, poo on that...you guys need my card so you can feel smarter. Smarter? Well, when you realize you could come up with better stuff, then you will feel smarter! Well, so could monkeys with typewriters. Anyway, let's get right to it and start things off with a bang or simply the "Nonsense Thoughts."
To start, TNA had its first show last Friday. I have to admit I was a little skeptical about it, but hey, it turned out to be better than Raw that week, in my opinion. In one hour, Impact did more than Raw could ever do in two hours, and definitely outshone an improving Smackdown. I was scared that the six sided ring would muck up the whole show when there weren't X Division matches, but my fears were soon put to grave faster than Booker T's push. Minus the Abyss match, everyone utilized the six sided ring perfectly; and. of course, the X Division stole the show. The opening match was just something WWE wishes it could open with each week, and their main event had me fawning for days. Kudos TNA...now do it again this Friday!
So...the draft, huh? Who has actually benefited from it? These are the people I have:
Shelton Benjamin
Rene Dupree
Dudleyz
And...
And...
No one?
Besides Edge who was already heading to Raw, there is no one else who seems to have benefited from this. Tajiri got lost in the mix as did Jindrak and RVD, and A-Train and Palumbo have been MIA for a couple of months now. Personally, I think they should have done the entire roster, not just twelve people. But hey, I don't make the decisions. If I did, let me tell you right now, there would be a different Cruiserweight, Women's, and Tag Team division in WWE right now.
What's with all the negativity on JBL lately? So let's see. He tells off the internet reporters like Clark who just sit there assuming he's going to suck at J-Day, and you wouldn't have done that? Well, what happened at J-Day? JBL gave the best match of his career and certainly improved a crap load, yet is that enough for the critics? No. Personally, I don't see what the big problem is. You guys accepted guys far worse in the ring than he like Savage in the late 90s, Ultimate Warrior, and the one I cringe the most at, Sid Vicious. Yet when JBL comes out, you all are at arms. There is something wrong here...
However, we all have a new reason to hate him. The Nazi incident in Germany is completely unprofessional, uncalled for, and insulting. Even though I thought he should be WWE Champion to help put him over and help Smackdown, I would be ashamed to watch a program that has him as a champ. I am sorry for the bluntness, but to use something that instilled fear in thousands (maybe millions) of innocent people as a way to "get over" is not only cheap, it's insulting and makes the gesture seem like it can be thrown around in everyday use with disregard to the thousands who died and witnessed tortures we only dream about. I only have one thing to say JBL now...I have no respect for you.
Note: The first part of this was written before the realization of what happened in Germany.
The Great American Bash is coming up and I for one am happy. I like the fact that they can salvage some names from WCW in WWE, but there is a line that has to be drawn. I don't think I will ever like it if WWE brings back "Starrcade" or "Superbrawl." To me, those were the PPVs that were WWE's "Wrestlemania" and "Summerslam" and to take those, it would be kind of low and would be like stealing the name WCW and slapping it on your shows. My only hope is that they only take one to two more PPV names from WCW; otherwise it just looks like they are raiding the WCW bin because they ran out of ideas. My hopes for names? Halloween Havoc and Mayhem, of course.
Well, that's it for now. Why don't we get right to the point so all of you don't fall asleep? For those of you who don't know, this is the 2nd installment of this "gimmick" column as the first one appeared on WrestlingExposed.com last year as "High Hopes For Bad Blood." With a little tweaking to the name, the second installment is ready to go, so without out further ado, I present to you "The 2nd Annual Bad Nonsense!"
Women's Championship
Fatal Four Way Elimination Match
Victoria (c) Vs. Lita Vs. Molly Holly Vs. Gail Kim
Honestly people, why in the hell is Trish Stratus in the match at Bad Blood? She has nothing to do with anything in the Women's Division. Personally, I think it should be Molly as the second heel in this Fatal Four Way Match as she can get revenge from WM XX. With this being said, this looks to be a good match that I have put together. We have two very talented ladies in Victoria and Molly, one improving in Gail Kim, and one still recovering in Lita. I personally think this is the match where Lita should regain the gold, despite her recovering ability. Don't worry; the belt will make her improve. Think about the match we could have. First off, Molly Holly is eliminated. Then we have Victoria gone. Then it's left to the number one contender and the one everyone is cheering for. As much as Lita stinks compared to her matches before her surgery, she needs the belt. Right now, she is caught in the middle, and this storyline with Hardy is going nowhere. Trust me, nowhere. Right now, we have an Elimination match which adds to suspense and with the hero winning the belt, it seems pretty good to me.
Steel Cage
Chris Jericho Vs. Tyson Tomko
I think this should be a steel cage match. First off, we have seen how well Jericho does in these matches. Plus, it adds to the effect that if Jericho wins, he can boast beating both Christian and his problem solver in the same match. Even more, Tomko is a beast, but his chain wrestling probably sucks worse than A-Train. To put him in a match where he can use his brute strength is a smart plan in my eyes. To me, Tomko should win this match to keep the feud going, otherwise it's one sided in Jericho's favor as he has a win at Backlash and that epic cage match under his belt. I think there should be an end to this feud at Summerslam which would be perfect as storylines lasting that long always pay off. Have Tomko win at Bad Blood, then Jericho at Vengeance against Tomko, and then have Jericho & a surprise partner Vs. Tomko & Christian at Summerslam to end the feud. Personally, I think it should be The Rock as he can fit just in trying to save a former friend (2001) and we already see how well Rock pays off in the "saving a friend" storyline like with Foley earlier this year. For this match currently though, we could see the brute Tomko throwing Jericho in the cage multiple times and maybe a powerbomb into the cage. For Jericho? Moonsaults, elbows, springboards, and of course, the Walls, which all adds up to a good match, by my standards.
World Tag Team Championship
Triple Threat
La Resistance (c) Vs. Superheroes Vs. Canadians In Control
So let's see. The Superheroes face La Resistance at Backlash. They face them in singles competition. So as soon as Resistance gets the belt, they aren't going to face them anymore. Honestly, I think they should be the number one contenders, but I digress. If they had this match, I guarantee you it would be a lot better than the one from Raw two weeks ago, and as long as it culminates in La Resistance retaining (to drop the titles to the Superheroes) or the Superheroes winning, I will be happy. Why the Superheroes? Well because the Superheroes need these titles. They have been in the Tag Team Division for a while now and facing tag teams together and separately in singles and still winning, and what have they got? Nothing. To get this belt would only help the Tag Team Division as we can see a rematch at Vengeance and then maybe we can see the Hardyz Vs. Superheroes at Summerslam. Yea, if this happened, I'd be on cloud nine. Imagine if you would. In this match, we can see a fast paced match between Hurricane and Benoit that could see him slipping in and out of the Crossface quickly before tapping (while the ref's out, of course). For all my doubters, just add La Resistance Vs. Superheroes at Backlash (which was good for what it was) and La Resistance Vs. Canadians In Control and hopefully you'll be smiling like me.
Eugene Vs. Garrison Cade
Oh come on, Eugene Vs. Coach? Who do we think will win? Granted, Coach has gotten better, but come on guys, which would you rather see? Eugene is one of the best in-ring talents Raw has right now, so why not match him up with an up and coming star to put him over as a heel? Honestly, you know it would be this anyway if it was Coach Vs. Eugene because who is in Coach's corner? Also, if we have this, we can see Coach get clocked by Regal....with the brass knux, of course. Eugene Vs. Garrison Cade. The future of WWE Vs. the other future. How can it fail?
Chuck Palumbo Vs. A-Train
Oh come on guys, have a sense of humor. Like I would want to see this match! Like anyone would!
Last Man Standing Match
Batista Vs. Rhyno
Monster Vs. Monster. Come on, this is just what Rhyno needs. A storyline! A feud! And ironically, this is what the black sheep of Evolution needs as well. A storyline! An alternative to steroids....I mean, a feud! As much as I hate Batista in singles competition, I think this would turn into a good match between two self proclaimed monsters. The only thing that could hinder this would be Niatch interfering, which would really have no point if Batista is in fact a monster. Oh, and the stipulation? When you have two monsters face off, why is a pinfall enough when the whole audience knows that these monsters can barely be kept down for three, so why not ten? Plus, to the winner, it only gives more prestige as to have beaten such a monster that they couldn't answer a ten count. And look at it this way. If Batista wins, that's just helps in him out of his rut. If Rhyno wins, that gives him some credibility on Raw as we haven't seen him since the draft. Think about these spots. Batista picks up Rhyno for the Demon Bomb, Rhyno gets out of it and spears Batista and at the seven count mark, he starts to celebrate, and when he turns around, Demon Bomb for the win. Come on guys, have a little faith in your author, I know what I'm talking about.
Intercontinental Championship
Randy Orton (c) Vs. Shelton Benjamin
Yes, this is one match that is actually signed for Bad Blood, and I agree with it fully. This is like the Cena-Lesnar match of Backlash 2003; Degeneration X in 1997 with Rock and Austin; and Summerslam 1998 with Triple H and Rock; this is the future of the WWE, and the matches we will see ad infinitum in the near future. If this match is anything like the one from Raw 2 weeks ago, trust me, they will live up to everyone's expectations. Personally, Orton is ready for the big time so it makes since for him to drop the title to Benjamin who has yet to have his mid-card time in. And with this, we open the door to many more exciting feuds. Perhaps Batista-Benjamin, Tomko-Benjamin, or maybe Henry/Mack-Benjamin if they ever return to Raw. I have this whole match already pictured in my head. Orton starts off in control and acts cocky only to have Shelton get a 2 count with a school boy, and then the chain wrestling begins! Oh man, I am just drooling over this match. If you guys thought RVD-Orton (both times), Orton-Foley, Benjamin-Triple H, & Benjamin-Flair were good, just hold your horses because as the song goes "You ain't seen nothing yet."
Kane Vs. Matt Hardy
Okay. A lot of you are leaving now. No, wait. Stay! Please. Oh well, screw you guys, I'm going to finish my column. Honestly, Kane has no business feuding with Benoit. Even more, this buildup is god awful. The storyline focuses more on Kane-Lita and Benoit-Edge than it does Kane-Benoit. Argue all you want, but it's true! Sure, they had a handicap match together...whoop-de-doo! What does that mean? Nothing! What has Kane done to Benoit? Barely anything. What has Benoit done to Kane? The same. Anyway, Kane Vs. Matt Hardy makes more sense at Bad Blood. Think about it. The storyline is going back and forth between Lita and Kane and of course, it should include her boyfriend who always defends her. Even more, if this was on the card, you know it would be drawn out for PPV which makes it even better as we can see the agility of Matt Hardy match up against the brute power of Kane in a good ten minutes. Think how Kane would take a Side Effect, or think how Hardy would take a Driving Lariat! The athleticism between these two giants would be great, and if Kane wins he could have the momentum then to challenge Benoit for the title, or destroy Hardy more at Vengeance (maybe in a Handicap match with brother Jeff). This match should have been on PPV and not Raw a few weeks ago as they just left the storyline hanging while Kane moved on. All this buildup and no PPV culmination...instead he's in a match with a competitor he is barely worried about. WWE Creative Team...what are you smoking?
Hell In A Cell
Shawn Michaels Vs. Triple H
I agree with this match also, however, I don't like the tradition this is starting. To have every Bad Blood have a HIAC only makes it predictable and makes the match itself less ominous because of its frequent use. Also, HIAC should be Taker's match, not Triple H's, so why should Triple H be in the 3rd HIAC out of the past 4? Anyway, this match does have good reason. For starters, both Triple H and HBK are leaving soon and won't be back for a while, which adds to the aftermath for we know they will be able to sell their injuries from HIAC for months. Plus, this will bring the chapter to a close like it did with so many other feuds. I, for one, would love to see a big bump taken by Triple H as opposed to HBK, as we have never seen him take one. I can just close my eyes and imagine the HIAC now. Triple H climbs up and stands on the edge and HBK comes flying with the Sweet Chin Music and connects to send Triple H off into an announcer's table. And for those who don't want to see Mick Foley's legacy taken away, you can picture this. Ric Flair comes to the top to interfere and is met with a spin buster or suplex through the top of the cage. And then when Triple H looks through the hole at his fallen friend, HBK connects with a SCM to send him down the open hole. Honestly, this could turn out to be one of the best HIACs in history as long as Triple H doesn't make his friend look like crap like he has in almost all of their encounters, especially their match at Armageddon 2002. If HBK wins, I don't want it to seem like he pulled it out of nowhere; I want it to be deserved, to be visible, and to be evident. No quick roll ups or twenty minutes of Triple H kicking his butt...just an even match that culminates him in winning. This match has me on the edge of my seat just thinking about it, and hopefully, they will deliver the same emotion. Oh yea, do you notice how WWE is planning to make this the Main Event? How much importance does that give to Benoit, the belt, or the rest of Raw? All it shows to me is that Benoit only main evented because of these two, the belt is unimportant without them, as is Raw. Well, why don't I change that?
Main Event
World Heavyweight Championship
Chris Benoit (c) Vs. Edge
Well, well, well. Look who I got to replace Kane. Honestly, Edge should have won the Battle Royal on Raw a few weeks ago. Just think about what would have happened if we had this. We would have had tension building between the two followed by bad teamwork against La Resistance, which would cost them their belts and trigger a confrontation. Of course, Edge would then turn heel like the good ol' days of 2000-2001 and we would have an intense buildup where they would have to compete together on the same card (shades of Benoit-Angle in 2002). Next? They would probably lose and then have to compete against each other later in the night. This is the best move for Edge as well who seems to be lost in the mix since he came back from injury. Though Edge is one of my favorites (or was), his in-ring work has severely suffered from his neck surgery just like Lita, and it is starting to takes it toll. Also, the writers in Titan Towers seem contempt at throwing him in random matches and situations. What are they thinking?
Yes, Edge is back, so let's just match him against Kane.
Yea, that makes sense.
Wait, now that that's over, what now
Let's randomly pair him with Benoit and have them win the belts!
Then what?
Let's make them get a rematch when they lose and ignore a feud!
Wow, I just have to reiterate what I said earlier: "WWE Creative Team...what are you smoking?" Back to the match, you can think of all the high spots in your head as I am as my hands hit the keys. We can have Edge go in for the spear, only to have Benoit counter it into the Crossface. What else? Maybe an Electric Chair Drop that Benoit quickly pops out of and gets a small package or school boy for a quick count. And for the fears that Edge will fail in the Main Event, look at his opponent. If there is anyone who can help Edge out of his current slump, it is Benoit. Look what he did for Rhyno. For A-Train. For countless others! This match could even be the one where we see Edge take the gold (not what I would want, but it could happen). Anyway you add it up, this beats any other World Title Match we could have right now, and would give Benoit the Main Event he needs to be established as a true player in the business. Sure, you can carry a good match with established veterans, but can you do it with someone back from neck surgery. That, my friend, is the million dollar question.
Sadly, that's it for the point of this column. Like the card I gave? Don't? Let me know. Even better, why don't you send me your card, and I will post the best in my next installment of "Column O' Nonsense." Well, why don't we wrap this up and get to the Nonsense Stretch?
As it turns out, I have been watching a crap load of WWE TV lately. Last summer, I bought a ton of DVDs off of eBay and didn't have any time to watch them because of school and work. But now, I'm making up for it. I have watched Judgment Day 1998, Rock Bottom 1998, WM XV, Summerslam 1999, and most recently, KOTR 2000, but I still have a crap load left. Well, because of this, I have a ton of MOTCs for the future to give you. For this column, I decided to give you a match that is really underrated and features the short stint of 2 Cold Scorpio. Well, here is your MOTC:
The Brood (Gangrel, Edge, & Christian) Vs. The J.O.B. Squad (Scorpio, Bob Holly, & Al Snow)
Rock Bottom 1998
Watch it and just remember who told you to!
After stating last column that I would no longer doing the QOTC, I got about 30 e-mails telling me I should keep it, and one viewer even told me he was going to start a petition if I got rid of it! Well, I always thought you guys hated it, hence why I got rid of it, but since I have seen the light, the QOTC is here to stay. Despite my desire to drag this on longer, here's your QOTC:
Stephanie McMahon-Helmsly: As I always say, "Once is not enough."
Rob Van Dam: Yeah, I heard that about you.
Smackdown, September 27, 2001
Well, now it's time for the cheap plug. Yes, yes, I know. You're favorite part! Don't worry, it's mine too. Well, that site I opened back in April is still up. The Wrestling Voice is the name for those who forgot or are new to my columns. We started with a simple mind set: to be a haven for columnists. Since then, we have expanded to be a site full of opinions. It's all opinion at TWV, not fact, and to help this, we have added the best sections:
Columns by an extreme staff of Guests and Members
Cartoons by a gifted cartoonist named Annette Balestri who rivals political cartoonists.
Games that help you guys take the role of a wrestler or help you learn more about your favorite stars.
Reviews by an excellent staff that gives their best opinions on all wrestling shows.
Interviews with famous stars that ask the questions we all are thinking and are dying to know.
And Forums where you can express your voice on anything!
Of course, we are still growing, but have done so well that we have gone from a dozen columnists and one section, to almost 8 sections and a staff of about 50 people! Well to sweeten the deal even more, we are accepting applications for any job 24-7! If you think you can be a columnist, reviewer, game maker, or something else, just fill out an application at this address (http://thewrestlingvoice.com/application.shtml) or you can find out more about us by e-mailing jobs@thewrestlingvoice.com.
The Wrestling Voice - The premier site for wrestling games, cartoons, interviews, reviews, and, of course, columns.
Well, that's it for now. Tune in later this week for my take on GAB, my past year, and a surprise column for all my fans! This is Dougie Nunny signing off from "Column O' Nonsense" and I hope I dropped your IQ lower than the difference between Batista and Tyson Tomko.
