New Year Predictions
Posted by Chris Krueger on 12/23/2006

As the New Year approaches, I wait with baited breath for what changes will come. Maybe in the far off future of 2007, Jack Black will once again make a funny movie. Rap music will become conscientious and cease teaching our children about being “pimps” and “hos”and begin to teach our children about respecting women and the rebirth of the AIDS epidemic in America. Lost, the TV show, will actual give us some answers without making the story even more convoluted. The President will realize that most of America doesn’t support his “No Plan” policy for Iraq and will have someone in the White House develop a plan. And we will finally have the hover cars that science fiction has so long promised. And as far as wrestling goes, there are many things I predict and sometimes hope will happen. As I look into my Jeanne Dixon inspired crystal ball into the not so distant future of 2007, I see many a wondrous thing.

In 2007, Women’s wrestling will finally be relegitimized in TNA. Already this has begun with Gail Kim and Christy Hemme actually having matches in the ring. Hopefully these don’t become bra and panties, wipe cream, straight naked dry hump, pillow fights, or the loser has to do something to the winner that I can’t get my wife to do even with Vodka and cash matches. “How dare you”, say you! I love hot women getting sweaty in tight outfits and touching each other as much as the next guy, but come on! Let’s face it; there are a lot of young women and girls out there who might get turned on to wrestling if their parents wouldn’t change the channel. If you want to watch porn, go to the internet or watching any of MTV’s reality shows. Look for an exodus of female wrestling talent to head to TNA.

In the future of 2007, the new ECW will fold faster than the French army in any major conflict, if you don’t understand this reference, I will once again tell you to put down the controller and go to your local library. We all know that the ECW of today is in no way or form related to the ECW of yesteryear. Vince McMahon will further tarnish the once mighty underground wrestling organization by adding an Alien who will teleport into the ring with a stripping blue skinned manager who speaks in “gleeps, glops, and goops.” She will point a ray gun at the Alien’s opponents and watch their careers evaporate. I’m willing to bet that some other aging star of the WWE will make a “shocking” and “controversial” jump over to the deservingly fledgling third arm of the WWE. I’m not naming names, but look for Booker T, the Undertaker, or Kane to be the final nail in the coffin of ECW. Tommy Dreamer, the Sandman, and a few of the other returning ECW alumni will next be seen wrestling at a Red Lobster parking lot in New Jersey. I’m not saying this to be derogatory; I’m saying they will return to their roots…the bloody and beaten roots of east coast style wrestling. RVD and Sabu will make the jump to TNA.

In the future of 2007, Wrestling Society X will debut and become immensely popular. It will burn fast and strong...until MTV begins to add VJs and Real World alumni into the mix. Who would be stupid enough to add a Real World cast member to wrestling? No offense to the Miz(take)! I predict some mid level talent from both the WWE and TNA will join up by the second season. Wrestling Society X will be the next hottest thing or the new XFL.

I predict that in 2007, several icons will return to the ring. I see Chris Jericho returning…because let’s face it, he hasn’t been successful with anything else. I’m not ragging on the Canadian/American or American/Canadian(depending on where he is performing) superstar. I think he is great and I look forward to his return. Kevin Nash will return for one match that will last about two minutes before he pulls or breaks something. And Goldberg, yes Goldberg will return. I believe that most of these talents will go down south to TNA. TNA will become as predicted the new WCW but with a cost. There will be at least two major stars leaving TNA to head for the WWE. It could be VKM. I believe their VKM/WWE feud will turn into a full blown DX reunion. At which point they will begin to go outside of TNA’s Orlando stronghold and repeat the same gimmick that has been going on since the 1990’s or Vince McMahon will use his strongest member of his roster, his lawyer, to shut them down. It might even be Samoa Joe or A.J. Styles, but I would advise them that it’s better to be a big fish in a little pond than to be caught in the net of Vince McMahon. I believe that A.J. Styles, Samoa Joe, Rhino, Test, and one if not two of the Hardys will be World Heavyweight Champions in their respected leagues, whichever ones they will be before the year is up.

And my biggest prediction for 2007 is that wrestling fans will keep speculating, debating, complaining, cheering, jeering, booing, screaming, applauding, and mostly watching all of their favorite superstars, up and comers, has beens, and everything in between.
