Howlings - Yep, I'm happy with WM!
Posted by Barbara Pinnella on 04/04/2006

Well, the buses have all pulled out of Chicago now. The superstars are gone and I imagine that things are back to normal. So now I want to mention just a few of the Wrestlemania matches that made my night. Let me first say that I was glad I watched. This was a good show that I really enjoyed.

How can I not begin with the Casket Match between Undertaker and Mark Henry? I was certainly happy when ‘Taker won and Dean’s television survived. So was Dean, as he really didn’t want me tossing something through it. Seriously, 14-0 for this WWE veteran is a big thing, whether you are an Undertaker fan or not. That is a record that will be hard, if not impossible, to equal. How about his giant leap over both the top rope AND the casket to land on Henry? Great spot! I really liked the Tombstone he delivered to Henry as well. He does know how to take care of his opponents. This match would have made Wrestlemania for me, had it not been for…

Rey Mysterio winning the World Heavyweight Championship! OK, so ‘heavyweight’ really doesn’t belong in the same sentence as Mysterio, but truth be told, I don’t give a damn. I also know that many people are of the opinion that Rey, and Chavo as well, as being exploited – riding on the Eddie Guerrero phenomenon. Others believe that it is Eddie’s legacy that is being taken down. I might have MARK written all over me, but I had only to see the faces of the Guerrero family and Eddie’s wife Vicki, both at the Hall of Fame and Wrestlemania, to believe it was the right thing to do. Mysterio’s match against then Champion Kurt Angle and Randy Orton was a super battle. Now let’s see how and where his reign will lead.

The Money in the Bank Ladder Match certainly had some super spots in it, and all of those involved had their moments of shining. There was Shelton Benjamin’s senton off the ladder onto Bobby Lashley, Matt Hardy and Rob Van Dam outside the ring. How about Hardy’s suplex on Ric Flair from atop the ladder? Or the powerbomb that was delivered to Lashley? Even Finley held his own during the match. I particularly liked the fact that RVD ended up winning the match. I hope this is the beginning of a legitimate push for him.

Did Mick Foley have his defining Wrestlemania match? Even though he has done some insane things in the past, I think that this just might have been the match he was waiting for. He and Edge brought it all to the table, and I so wanted Foley to win. But when it was over and Edge walked out the victor, Mick seemed to have gained more out of that then if he had won. This was a pure blood and guts war, and that should have surprised no one. What a great job done here.

Shawn Michaels wanted to make up for all of the crap that had been dished out by Vince McMahon of late, and The Heartbreak Kid delivered it in spades. I loved it when Michaels turned the tables on Shane. While Daddy loved the ass kissing he was supposedly getting from Shawn, his change of expression was priceless as he realized that it was actually Shano-Mac being forced to do the deed. This was a fun and entertaining match, with of course some brutality involved as well. Good work here, right down to Vince giving Shawn the finger as he was rolled all the way up the ramp on a stretcher. I had only one question, and it came to me as soon as I saw Shane. Originally he was supposed to wrestle the match against HBK, but opted out because his wife’s baby was due then. But here he was for basically the entire match, and he appeared back on Monday as well. Not really important I know, but I kept thinking about it anyway.

Finally, the WWE Championship match between the champ John Cena and Triple H. I must say I would have lost money on this one. I did not see HHH losing this match, no way, no how. I figured he would win and hold the belt for another year or so. And the fact that he tapped out for the loss really did it for me. A complete surprise to this viewer, I’ll admit. I liked this match too, and I will say that I am one of those who still likes Cena. I like his energy and determination, and I’m glad he is still the WWE Champion!

Be safe and God Bless,
Viva La Raza,
Barb.
