Howlings - The future looks bright
Posted by Barbara Pinnella on 10/02/2005

Right now I am very disappointed. I just found out that The Fallen Angel Christopher Daniels was involved in an independent show, Adrenaline Unleashed, over the weekend. I knew about this event and had wanted to attend, but I didn’t get finished with work in time to make it back. AU was held at what is now the Industry Hills Expo Center, formerly the Industry Hills Equestrian Center where I trained horses for more than twelve years. This damn place is less than four miles from my home, Daniels is one of my favorite performers, and I couldn’t make it!!! So for now I am being very shallow indeed, and whining about the fact that I missed seeing that.

OK, I guess I have to move on (sob) and discuss other things, for this is a big time for wrestling in the next few weeks. Total Nonstop Action made its debut on Spike TV Saturday night with what I thought was a good show. We got to see many of TNA’s superstars in action, as AJ Styles, Chris Sabin, Alex Shelley, Petey Williams, Roderick Strong, Lex Lovett, Monty Brown, Jeff Hardy and Rhino (so ripped, by the way) were on hand to entertain us. There was also a run-in by Sabu, which left the Hardy / Rhino match a no-contest. After that match Jeff Jarrett made an appearance, as did America’s Most Wanted. There was also Kevin Nash and – it just thrills me to say this – the introduction of Team 3-D! I am going to risk being contacted by the WWE attorneys here and say that they are better known as The Dudley Boyz! I can’t wait to see all of those mentioned in action. In all, I thought this was a good way for Spike to introduce their new wrestling show.

But what about their old wrestling show? Well, that would be Raw, and what occurred on their final Monday night was nothing short of comical. The Spike crew decided that no mention would be made of USA, the network that Raw will move to beginning with their next show. And so the bleeps began. When Vince McMahon came out to bid a farewell to Spike all went well, until McMahon wanted to let the viewers know (because Vince, we had no idea until that instant!) that the show would be moving. Each time he tried to make mention of USA he was bleeped out. There were also several times when the screen went to a “We are experiencing technical difficulties” sign – I guess USA was getting through too much, so they just took the whole thing off for a few seconds. Everyone began having fun at Spike’s expense. It seemed to be a contest to see who could get USA in the most. I think that JR might have won that one. After the first hour it appeared that the fingers of the Spike censors were getting tired, as the bleeps were down considerably. Pretty funny stuff though, particularly since lawyers are now involved. Please!

So tomorrow night Raw will happily make its way back to USA – yes, they’ve successfully been there once before – and give us a three hour show that seems to be of pay-per-view quality. Appropriately called Homecoming, we will see the WWE Champion John Cena against Eric Bischoff. There will be a 30 minute Iron Man Match between Kurt Angle and the HeartBreak Kid himself, Shawn Michaels. I expect this to be a good one. There will be a Bra and Panties Match (oh yeah, can’t wait) with Trish “I wish they would just let me wrestle” Stratus and Ashley against Victoria, Torrie and Candice Michelle. For the most exciting and dangerous match of the night Edge will put his ‘money in the bank’ on the line against Matt Hardy in a Loser Leaves Raw Ladder Match. I can only imagine what these two will do and I’m really looking forward to it.
There will be many others in attendance. Rowdy Roddy Piper will have his Piper’s Pit up and running with special guest Mick Foley. Steve Austin, Triple H, Hulk Hogan, Jimmy Hart, The Iron Sheik, and the Fabulous Moolah are just a few others who are expected to make and appearance. I’ll probably be watching the show after the fact, but I’ll explain that later.

And as long as I mentioned that Raw seemed to be of PPV quality, let me remind you that the WWE’s No Mercy will take place on October 9th. World Heavyweight Champion Batista will face Eddie Guerrero for the title. Chris Benoit will defend his United States belt against Christian, Orlando Jordan, and Booker T, Undertaker has to endure a Handicap Match between the father and son team of Bob and Randy Orton. JBL goes against Rey Mysterio, The Legion of Doom and Christie Hemme faces off against MNM, and Simon Dean will get to try to out-wrestle the very athletic Bobby Lashley.

TNA has Bound For Glory on October 23rd. Billed as TNA’s Wrestlemania, this show looks to have the potential of going down as one of the best in any organization. The card thus far looks great, and I will be discussing this show at length once we get closer to the event.

On a personal note for a moment, my Dad is undergoing open heart surgery on Monday morning. Any prayers or kind thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Be safe and God Bless,
Barb.
