Howlings - I missed PPV; Raw, SD
Posted by Barbara Pinnella on 05/28/2005

I thought it would never happen, but last Sunday it did. I forgot a pay-per-view. Completely. Apparently, I guess I wasn’t too excited about Judgment Day. Even when I watched SmackDown! last week it didn’t jog my memory long enough for me to order it when the time came. I heard it was pretty good, too. But I guess even though the title match was an I Quit match, apparently seeing John Cena and John Bradshaw Layfield go at it again didn’t get me going. And here’s something else – I preferred JBL as the champion. A few months ago those words would have never been put down in print, at least not by me! But Bradshaw has something, a unique blending of face and heel that holds appeal for both sides of the table. And I miss him with the belt over his shoulder telling us that he is a wrestling God! Cena is over, there is no doubt about that. The fans go nuts over him, and I heard that they gave him an unbelievable ovation at Judgment Day. But I don’t know, and I can’t explain it, I just want JBL back. Go figure!

Chris Jericho is changing masks again, as he is now more interested in making music rather than getting to the arena on time for his match. I find this to be an intriguing path, which could make for a good story line for him. And just where has his Highlight Reel gone? Not that we need to see it each week, but I sure enjoy his version rather than the current Carlito’s Cabana on SmackDown!. Anyway, back to Y2J, after causing Shelton Benjamin to end up in a Handicap Match, and lose to Hassan and Daivari, Jericho was put in a match against Sylvain Grenier and won. I bet that just thrilled Benjamin, don’t ya think?

Never mind the lies, yeah, lies, that were thrown around that ring, history was made when Vince McMahon, Eric Bischoff and Paul Heyman stood together for the first time. Regardless of what one might feel about Heyman, he is still magic, and as far as I’m concerned completely outshined the WWE owner and Raw’s General Manager. I don’t know how the ECW pay-per-view One Night Stand is going to turn out, but the possibilities are endless in either direction, actually. I am sure of one thing – I won’t forget that show. I have seen the list of names who are supposed to be involved in one way or another, but I think there is more than meets the eye there and I want to be a part of it.

Edge lost in his attempt to take the Championship belt away from Batista, but in the end it was Batista who lost. Poor thing, he actually believed that Ric Flair had become his friend. Then who showed up after the match but Triple H. A sledgehammer attack and a bit of man-bonding between Flair and HHH later, Batista was left laying in the ring while Ric and The Cerebral Assassin walked off into the sunset together. (If you ask me, this is all a little strange. Too much togetherness!) Wow! What a surprise that was! Did anyone expect that to happen? Duh yeah, like, everyone! It would have been much more compelling if Triple H had stayed away for a few weeks, and just when everyone relaxed and forgot about him, bam. I would have preferred that, anyway.

SmackDown! gave us only three matches (I can’t count Kurt Angle’s local guy challenge), but two of those were good. I loved the tag match between champs MNM against Bob Holly and Charlie Haas for the Tag Team title. I thought this was a first rate match and I would love to see Holly and Haas as the Tag Team Champions. These four did a super job and I really enjoyed that one.

The Winners Choice Battle Royal was good as well, but I was surprised at who the last two wrestlers were. I thought it would have been either Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio or Angle and Booker T, not Angle and Mysterio. But Kurt and Rey were so good. I usually don’t like that many false finishes, but it really didn’t bother me this time because the two of them did such a good job with it. It was only when Angle won and made his choice for his opponent that it all fell apart. Sharmell? While not really unexpected, it is stupid. It will end up being Kurt against Booker anyway, unless we repeat a story line done many times and Angle kidnaps Booker’s wife and hides her away. God, I hope not. That would be awful. Well, we’ll just have to wait and see.

Thanks to all of you who sent me your comments regarding the upcoming draft. I will discuss that and some of your emails when the time gets closer. Feel free to keep giving me your thoughts and ideas – I love reading them!

Be safe and God Bless,
Barb.
