The WWE has been quite vocal concerning their opinion of the Internet – they don’t like it. In particular, they don’t like anyone putting up news stories, don’t care for the columnists who write articles, or the readers who chose to peruse anything that we might have put out there for all to pick through and savor. But one thing that the company does do, and that is listen to their fans. Oh I know, sometimes that seems hard to believe, but it’s the truth. Do you really think that they would continue to do storylines that absolutely nobody wanted to watch? Not a chance, even though that might often seem to be the case. But I’m getting off track – let me find my way back.
Fact and fiction melded together with the current situation between Matt Hardy, Edge, and Lita. Initially, as far as the information that the Internet aficionados were given, rumor had it that Hardy was no longer involved with his long-time girl friend, Lita, and without naming names, said that he had been lied to and deceived. While this was good copy by tabloid standards, it left out just enough information so as to not be the gospel. Gradually however, more and more information came to light, with the latest, as of this writing, being statements made by a close friend of Hardy’s, speaking for Matt. And while it was not hard to figure out what Hardy had meant with his first statement, we were not informed of an alleged affair until this report. Now Edge’s name was given as the man involved with Lita. Not only had she been with Matt for several years, but Edge had been a close friend of the couple, as well as being recently married himself. Is this a shocking and rare occurrence? No, unfortunately not. But the wrestling community is a very small world, all in all, and word is out that the WWE is not at all pleased with the actions of Edge and Lita, particularly Edge.
Neither apparently, are the fans. When Edge appeared on Raw this past Monday night he was not met with a happy crowd. This was different from the usual heel heat that any wrestler who plays a heel wants and needs to have, to be successful. No, this was definitely different. Then there were the signs; Edge screwed Matt, Edge screwed Lita, you get the idea. And it seems that Lita is not taking nearly as much crap for this as is Edge. On television at least, when she made her appearance on Raw it didn’t sound as if she was met with much negativity.
So has Edge signed his own death warrant? Hardy was due to be backstage at Raw this week – that didn’t happen. A Six-Man Ladder Match is set for Wrestlemania. Edge will be involved, and I can’t help but think that Matt would have been a part of that as well, but not now. The fear is that an actual fight will break out between these two. Again, rumor only has it that Hardy will be moving to SmackDown!, so as to keep these two athletes apart. Matt will rise and survive I’m sure. He has the support of the WWE and the support and sympathy of the fans. But what about Edge? Yes, he will be included in a match at ‘Mania, but to what end? Will the WWE pay attention to the fans and faze out Edge, or will they take it upon themselves to do that regardless of public opinion. They could cut the string in the middle of his push and let him crash and burn. Or should they – does one thing have anything to do with the other? If you care, I welcome your opinions on the matter.
Less than a month until Wrestlemania, and we have more matches made and others hinted at. As everyone already knew, Randy Orton finally did challenge Undertaker – as he said, “Legend Killer vs. Legend”. We’ll find out Thursday, but of course The Dead Man will accept. As most of you know, ‘Taker is 12 and 0 at the show of shows and Orton plans to end that win streak. We’ll see.
The cast of characters for the Ladder Match that I’ve already mentioned has been determined. Joining Y2J, who came up with the idea, and of course Edge, we will also see Christian, Chris Benoit, Shelton Benjamin, and the biggest surprise entry, Kane. GM Eric Bischoff raised the stakes, as he will be putting a briefcase above the ring which will contain a contract for an opportunity, good for one year, to face the World Heavyweight Champion for the title. Now the match is a Money in the Bag Ladder Match. I liked this, for it adds just a bit more meaning to the outcome of this contest.
Raw Diva Christy Hemme challenged Trish Stratus to a match for the Women’s Championship at ‘Mania. She’s been training, you see, and her teacher has been none other than Lita. The match is on, and for Trish’s sake I really hope Christy is a very fast learner. If not, Trish will have to carry the entire match – hard to do no matter how long it might be.
Muhammad Hassan wants into the Wrestlemania picture, but as of now there are no plans. Of course, that can quickly change.
On SmackDown!, Funaki asked The Big Show if he would ever face Akebono, and Show replied that he would do so anytime, anyplace. It would be his honor. Well, that might just happen. It is not yet set in stone, but personally, I would really like this to take place. It should be something different, and I would welcome that.
Finally, it has been brought to my attention (nicely, I might add – thanks for that!) that I made a big mistake last week when I listed those men who will be inducted into the Hall of Fame. I named last years’ inductee, “Superstar” Billy Graham, instead of “Mr. Wonderful” Paul Orndorff. If anyone has read this and knows Mr. Orndorff, I apologize, and congratulations!
Be safe and God Bless,
Barb.
